Fighters from around the state, and a couple from outside Arizona, went head to head for glory, including Casa Grande police officer Jeff Thornton, who took home the belt.
Dale Sopi’s brother, George, fought Saturday, but the results weren’t good for the Maricopa resident.
George had to deal with the dynamic and powerful Pete Rodriguez of Tucson in his 185-pound bout. While George landed a couple good shots, Rodriguez got the better of some intense exchanges in the middle of the cage, landing some big right hands that rocked George.
The referee stopped the fight about a minute into the first round, with Rodriguez grabbing the TKO win.
